Tiny Tudor

After decades of living and raising children in this modest Tudor cottage, retired homeowners treated themselves to a main-level remodel of old-world Cotswalds’ proportions. Revamping essential historic homes keeps these Saint Paul neighborhoods looking vibrant while capitalizing on existing structures rather than synthetically trying to reproduce historic charm. The kitchen bump out added 4 feet to the corner lot home, providing ample storage, heaps of character, and big windows for daylight. Although a compact footprint, the design offers the flexibility of function whether a larger group is being entertained or providing for daily 2-person usage. The built-in bench beautifully flexes as a solo comfy spot or a place for up to 8 people around the custom-built fir table. The island is a mobile prep station for 2 folks that can be wheeled away when friends pack the space. All items have a place behind clever cabinetry, even hidden in the hood structure. The remodeled bathroom is unbothered by its small stature. It boasts new polished nickel vanity legs and built-in making the most of the petit corners and materials that blend with its big brother kitchen. The cabinetry stretches from floor to ceiling and utilizes every inch of space, recessed upper vanity cabinet allows for welcome layout space on the quartz countertop. Outside, the windows and window boxes follow the original home details with the addition of charming French casement wood windows in the kitchen, rendering the addition virtually indistinguishable from the original home. The original detailing of the living room ‘car-siding’ paneling and Douglas fir lintels are reinvented in the new kitchen in alternate forms and functions. The marble tile species of the bathroom floor matches the kitchen backsplash marble type. The details combined for perfectly fitted modern improvements.
