Located in a historic residential area of Mahtomedi, these homeowners were in need of improving their 1980 built home to better accommodate their lifestyle and love for the outdoors. Also a priority was expanding their house for their aging mother to live with them and grown children to join them for lenghly visits. Focused on creating both common and private living spaces, the home now features areas suitable for all with an addition of a new screened-in living room and a second level owner’s suite complete with exposed natural wood plank and beam system. The design includes nods to the couple’s nautical interests and sustainable building and finishing methods are utilized throughout the living, dinging and kitchen transformation. This home has evolved from a cut up, three bedroom floor plan to a 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom house with an abundance of both gathering and private living space.
